What we Believe
The Global Methodist Church

Asbury is a congregation of the Global Methodist Church. Our beliefs are rooted in scripture and informed by the doctrine and traditions of the church. We affirm the scriptures of the Old and New Testament as authoritative, inspired by God, and containing all that is necesary for salvation.

We believe in the one, triune God who exists eternally as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

We affirm that in his death on the cross Jesus has defeated the power of sin, freed us from slavery to sin and death, and paid the penalty for our sins. In His resurrection, he has defeated death and shown us a foretaste of our own future, resurrected with Him to live forever in the New Creation. We look forward to the day of His return, when He shall raise the dead and sit in judgment, inviting the righteous to eternal life in His New Creation.

We affirm the Nicene Creed as foundational for Christian belief and doctine, and we affirm the Articles of Religion as our definitive doctrinal statement. The Nicene Creed is included below. To read the Articles of Religion and for more information about our doctrinal heritage, please refer to the relevant section ("Doctrinal Foundations") found in the Book of Doctrines and Discipline, linked at the bottom of the this page. You may also wish to read our Global Methodist Catechism, which is likewise linked at the bottom of this page.

Nicene Creed

We believe in one God,

the Father, the almighty,

maker of heaven and earth,

of all that is,

seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,

the only Son of God,

eternally begotten of the Father,

God from God, Light from Light,

true God from true God,

begotten, not made,

of one being with the Father.

Through him all things were made.

For us men and for our salvation

he came down from heaven;

by the power of the Holy Spirit

he became incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and was made man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;

he suffered death and was buried.

On the third day he rose again

in accordance with the scriptures;

he ascended into heaven

and is seated at the right hand of the father.

He will come again in glory

to judge the living and the dead,

and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit,

the Lord, the giver of life,

who proceeds from the Father and the Son.

With the Father and the Son he is worshipped and glorified.

He has spoken through the Prophets.

We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.

We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.

We look for the resurrection of the dead,

and the life of the world to come. Amen.
